Becoming Minimalist.

Whilst minimalism and Gothic style may seem worlds apart, here's nothing quite as satisfying to me as adding minimalism to my world. Minimalism has always appealed to me even when my possessions have been totally chaotic and my mind a mess. I see decluttering as a way to really clear not only your mind, but your spirit. In a consumer driven culture it's easy to over consume and I am very much guilty. Consumption isn't the problem, the issue is over consumption. After watching The Minimalists once again and moving, I realised how much stuff I had, stuff that I didn't need or want. Stuff I couldn't remember buying and stuff that wasn't my taste and I wondered why I'd brought it home in the first place.

I will never be a minimalist to the degree of some super minimalists, but that's not the goal of minimalism. This quote by Tenzin Palmo is very true, and the reason I am seeking out minimalism to help me stop accumulating stuff. I've always been a fan of minimal, simplistic fashion - but my closet is far from minimal and I'm okay with that.

Minimalism isn't about owning next to nothing, but it's about mindful consumption, not compulsive consumption, which is something I'm very good at. Minimalism looks different for everybody and I'm excited about taking control of my life through minimising it.
